La Rosa dei 4 Venti

Martina Franca, Italy.

Please note that this venue can only be booked directly with La Rosa dei 4 Venti at https://www.larosadei4venti.com

This incredible and world renowned retreat centre was build as a Carmelitan Monastery and belonged to the order of Carmelite friars of Martina Franca dating from the year 1689, which is evidenced by the engraving on the lintel on one of the doorways of the main building and by the small church which is still consecrated and dedicated to the figure of the Virgin of Carmelo.

It had always been a place for pilgrims and spiritual retreat until when it was converted into a Masseria, a typical southern Italian farmhouse, particularly in Puglia, built between the Medieval period and the 17th century.  In fact La Rosa was one of the important stops for pilgrims traveling between Jerusalem and Rome and so has a natural energy of resting and slowing down.

It takes its name from the term “masserizie” (furnitures and farms tools) and is a collection of farm buildings used for agricultural holdings; it was often inhabited by the landowners and the farm labourers and which included amongst its outhouses stables, storage for fodder and crops.

Since 2007 La Rosa dei 4 Venti returned to its original aim: to host the contemporary travellers who cross the whole world and retreat here rediscovering ones’ own well-being.

Küche

Food is one of the most important experiences at La Rosa and allows all participants to nourish their body like the temple it is. The kitchen is hosted by the team at La Rosa and they have decades of experience catering for wellbeing and spiritual travelers.

A deep, intense, playful and especially joyful journey where our love for the vegetable made it the great protagonist of the dishes, with all its colours, flavours and varieties.

A study of taste, structure and textures to give the right value to an ingredient with strong creative, nutritional and sustainable potential.

We have been strongly inspired by traditional Italian dishes, making them contemporary, lighter and healthier taking inspiration from the most innovative processing methods in the culinary system respecting and emphasizing the traditional taste.

Around the vegetable will orbit our fresh pasta, our bread, focaccia and pastries made with Senatore Cappelli flour, an antique Apulian grain also good for intolerance; fresh dairy products from local farms, fresh fish or meat on request.

Given the incredible wine making capabilities of the region, local wines can also be recommended for pairing with your meals throughout your stay.

On each retreat a luxurious brunch and a delicious dinner are provided on all retreat days (except arrival and departure day that have just one meal) and snacks, tea and coffee are available throughout the day.  The food is vegetarian, gluten free with low dairy.

Umgebung

La Rosa dei 4 Venti is in Puglia, Italy resting calmly, in ancient the olive groves.  The closest town is Martina Franca just 15 minutes drive away, a stunning location in itself with a lively and beautiful town square dominated by the cathedral.  Day trips can be easily organized with La Rosa to the hip beaches of Polignano a Mare or to the magnificent 'white village' of Ostuni or Alberobello, the land of the Puglian trulli, just to name a few.

You can also walk through the olive groves on the land itself or venture further afield to explore the small winding lanes and traditional trullo dotted around the countryside near by.

La Rosa itself resides on its own ancient land which experiences incredible sunrises and sunsets.
